On May 8, 2025, Sitecore will deprecate the legacy Pages rich text editor previously accessible from the right-hand side panel. The newer CKEditor rich text editor will become the default.
Benefits
The new rich text editor provides various improvements, including:
Many more formatting options, such as the ability to create tables, find and replace text, and apply various image styling options.
Functionality that was not possible in the old editor, such as supporting custom markup.
Required actions
Upgrade all your XM Cloud environments to at least version 21.5.2 of JSS (how to upgrade your JSS application) before May 8, 2025. If you're working with a technical partner on your XM Cloud project, you might need to coordinate this work with them.
The deprecation on May 8, 2025 won’t immediately affect content on your live sites. However, if you don’t upgrade to a suitable JSS version, rich text fields will not render correctly the next time you edit and republish them in XM Cloud after that date.
Recommended actions
If you’re already using JSS 21.5.2 or later, you can enable the inline rich text editor now:
For each of your environments, add the environment variable PAGES_ENABLE_NEW_RTE_EDITOR in the Deploy app and set its value to ‘true’.
Redeploy the affected project(s).
Note that when you edit a rich text or multiline field for the first time after enabling the new rich-text editor, you might notice the field and its contents look different.
When Pages defaults to the inline editor on May 8, 2025, no further action will be needed for environments where the new editor is already enabled.
